Spiral of Silence

The Spiral of Silence is a theory developed by Elisabeth Noelle-Neumann. This theory states that an individual is less likely to speak up about a topic if they feel they might be retaliated against for their opinion against the larger group. This theory stems from the fear of isolation and need for social acceptance instilled in the average individual.
