George Herbert Mead

George Herbert Mead brought about the idea that the communication process has two phases. The first phase has to do with "conversation of gestures", while the second deals with "conversation of significant gestures."
Within the conversation of gestures, communication takes place on a subconscious level. The speaker is unaware of the gestures he or she makes that others take notice of. They are unable to control the way others interpret their gestures.
