Ethnocentrism

A condition in a society in which members of diverse groups continue to maintain their unique group identities while identifying as a member of a larger group that shares its own identity.

 

Chicago is an example of a culturally plural society.  Many neighborhoods exist in Chicago, including Greektown, Chinatown, Bridgeport, Beverly, and more.  However, all of these neighborhoods still identify as members of the city of Chicago.
