Encoding

Putting information into a form that allows it to be transmitted through a particular medium, also understood to mean putting information of all kinds into messages according to conventions that are more social in nature and difficult to specify, as in arranging a series of images in such a way as to suggest a narrative (Crooks, 1998)

 

The sender, or speaker of the message, encodes (thinks) of what a tree is before he/she actually speaks it.
