Edward Hall

Edward Hall is best known for his work with proxemics. In his book, The Hidden Dimension (1966), he came up with the idea that human understanding are made and formed by the surrounding culture.
Within his research Hall came up with the best known definition of the three personal spaces that surround everyone.
1) Intimate Space. This is the closest amount of space surrounding an individual. This room is reserved for only close friends and significant others.
2) Social and Consultative Space. This is the space in which most people feel comfortable in regular social interactions.
3) Public Space. This is the space beyond regular interactions where any interaction becomes impersonal.
