Cultivation Theory
The Cultivation Theory was founded by George Gerbner in 1976. The theory brought attention to the impact of television viewing on society. Those individuals who watch more than four hours of television a day, known as heavy viewers, are exposed to more violence. This exposure is known as the Mean World Syndrome, where viewers becoming convinced the world is much more dangerous than it actually is.
